Cardiff Fire announce partnership with Jacob Abraham foundation.

The foundation was set up by the family and friends of Jacob Abraham who tragically took his own life at age of 24. The aim of the charity is to raise awareness of male suicide and help young men suffering from anxiety, depression and over whelming feelings of despair. They aim to raise awareness in mental health and in doing so reduce the stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental health, ensuring that boys and young men know who to speak to about their concerns, which could prevent them feeling that suicide is their only option.

The Jacob Abraham Foundation seeks to achieve the vision through 4 objectives:

  • To provide suicide prevention and intervention training in local communities. To provide a one-day training course every 8 weeks delivered by Safer Suicide London. The course will give participants the opportunity to recognise signs of suicide, to intervene effectively and provide a safeguarding plan for those at risk. The Jacob Abraham Foundation will fund the full cost of the course based on donations received as a charity. For more information and to register your interest for a place on the course, please click here.
  • 2 To support bereaved families post-suicide. The Jacob Abraham Foundation will aim to provide information to support people bereaved through suicide. Where possible, the charity aims to provide practical information on the post-suicide process, including comfort packs and support groups. For more information, please click here.
  • To educate communities on the issues surrounding male suicide, including leaflets, posters and sign-posting. The Jacob Abraham Foundation is still undergoing a consultation process to provide the public with suicide education. This information will include advice, signposting and well-being information that is easily accessible by the target groups. If you require any further information or wish to assist in the consultation process, please click here.
  • To run preventative programmes/workshops for targeted vulnerable people in the community. The Jacob Abraham Foundation aims to provide well-being and mindfulness workshops to individuals or groups. If you require more information or wish to register your interest in attending a workshop, please click here.
