Cardiff FireAt Invicta Dynamos
Saturday 18th October | Planet Ice, Gillingham
A more disciplined Fire team showed up to Planet Ice Gillingham for their first match up of the season. After an early penalty against Fire, the Dynamos opened the scoring in the first five minutes to take the lead to 1 – 0. For the next 40 minutes of play, both goalies managed to keep either team from scoring. Sadly, in the final 10 minutes of the game Dynamos sealed their victory with 2 more goals against Fire with persistent shots on goal.
In the words of Head Coach, #97 Elis Sheppard in his post-game interview Sunday with Standing Room Only’s Chris O’Brien; ‘in this league, switch off for a minute or two and other teams will punish you’. Ultimately, the Dynamos were the stronger team with consistent hustle and disrupting Fire’s momentum to win the two points.
Player of the Game went to #41 Ben Scanlan with 55 saves.

Solent DevilsVs Solent Devils
Sunday 19th October | Vindico Arena, Cardiff
Sunday’s home game against Solent Devils, a team that sat 3rd on the table going into the game, Fire had to go into the game with a strong mentality remembering their historic win against this team last season.
With a fiery fast-paced start to the game, that continued throughout the first two periods. Full of end-to-end playing, multiple shots and brilliant plays made by both teams, with neither team getting the puck over the line meaning shut outs for both goalies.
The Devils opened the scoring in the first minute of the third period, Fire not letting the goal affect their mindset returned the goal with a stunner from #92 Josh Poole, assisted by #27 Carter Lloyd and #19 Tom Stephens timed at 40:42. Even with two more power-play opportunities for Fire the third period ended in a draw 1 – 1, and after a feisty five minute overtime ended without any more goals meaning it all came down to a penalty shootout, with the away team shooting first.
