Whiting, Davies and Scanlan back in net for 2019/20

Fire are delighted to announce that James Whiting, Lewis Davies and Ben Scanlan re-join Fire for the 2019/20 season.

Great Britain U18 goalie Lewis Davies singed for Fire as a 17 year old and will now play in his 3rd consecutive season for the Fire. Lewis traveled as part of the GB team to South Korea in 2017 and won a gold medal for GB Under 18โ€™s in Estonia in 2018. In 2019 Lewis played and started for England U19 against Scotland winning the game 4-2

James Whiting joined Cardiff Fire in our first season splitting his time with Cardiff Under 20โ€™s. In his junior career James played for South West and England. James has won 3 championships in Cardiff. Winning the national championships with Cardiff U18โ€™s and has also won two championships with Cardiff Fire.

Ben Scanlan is just 17 years old and was part of Cardiff Fireโ€™s team last season whilst playing for Cardiff U18โ€™s in South Division 1. Ben has also represented South West as junior last season starting 3 games for the conference. Ben was also called up to back up for the Cardiff Devils last season.

Mark Cuddihy added โ€œAll 3 of the guys are super young and all are serious prospects. James has been with us since we started and has played for me previously at NIHL level, heโ€™s the oldest of the 3 but still only 22 years old. He finished the season really strong for us last year and I am looking forward to see how he kicks on this season. In Lewis we have a GB junior caliber goalie and I am sure he will be working hard to make the GB U20โ€™s teams this season. Ben being the youngest of the 3 hasnโ€™t started a senior game as yet but he is going to this season. Heโ€™s still technically an U18 but he is more than ready to step up to senior hockey.

James, Lewis and Ben will work as a team within the team and they will all get games in both the Division 1 team and the development team. Giving them all lots of ice time and plenty of opportunity to stake their claim. I am really looking forward to see how they progress this season and Iโ€™m really glad to have such talented young goalies playing for usโ€
