The Cardiff Fire took to the ice this weekend for an intense back-to-back, playing away on Saturday and at home on Sunday. The team battled hard, but came away with two defeats. Even though the results did not go their way, Sunday brought an important milestone: they played in front of a home crowd for the first time this campaign. Attention now turns to their next contest, where they will seek redemption.
Game One at Slough Jets | Saturday 26th September
14 – 3 
Cardiff FireFor the first game of the weekend, the team travelled to take on the Slough Jets. It was a tough day at the office as the Fire lost 14-3. The Jets started at a furious pace, scoring the first three goals in the opening 10 minutes. Cardiff responded with a goal in the opening 20 minutes. However, it was just an onslaught from the home side, and goals from Alfie Stone, Ben Davies, and Craig Thurston weren’t enough in a challenging clash for the Fire. In addition to his goal, captain Thurston tallied two assists. It was a disappointing result for the side, but when they returned home, it was a much closer contest.

Game Two vs Solent Devils | Sunday 27th September
2 – 5 
Solent DevilsThe Fire returned to the Welsh capital for their second clash of the weekend as they welcomed the Solent Devils to the Vindico Arena. Cardiff got off to a rapid start with Aaron Moody, picking out the right pass and finding Bailey Hind-Pitcher for the opening goal. It was quickly followed by Owen Smetham finding the back of the net with an assist from Dylan Webb. Even though the Fire had a fantastic start, with two goals in the first three minutes, the Devils fought back to secure a 5-2 victory. After an electrifying opening quarter that saw five goals total, the rest of the contest was intense and tightly contested. An empty-net goal sealed the win for the visitors in a game where the final score doesn’t tell the full story. Shots on goal were relatively even, with Cardiff’s 41 compared to the Devils' 43. They will now look to take the positives from Sunday's game into their next clash.

The Table
After the weekend's results, Cardiff have dropped to fifth with three points, one win and two losses. Their attention will now turn to the Swindon Wildcats 2 clash in just under a fortnight. The Fire will take confidence from their pre-season victory over the Swindon-based team, which saw them keep a clean sheet.
Even though the results weren’t what was hoped for, there are still plenty of positives to take. One thing is for sure: the home crowd's support will be fierce no matter the result.
