Former Elite, BNL and EPL goalkeeping legend Mike Brabon returns to Fire in dual role

Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce that 36 year old Mike Brabon will re-join Cardiff Fire after some time away from hockey.

Brabon started his hockey career in Cardiff and made his Cardiff Devils senior debut at the age of 16 playing in the BNL. Mike played another 5 years for the Cardiff Devils in the Elite league before moving to the EPL with Solihull, Swindon, Romford, Telford and Isle of Wight, with a 5 game loan spell back to the Cardiff Devils. After leaving Isle of Wight Brabon returned to Cardiff under Mark Cuddihy to play NIHL D1 where he helped the team to runners up spot and a play-off semi final. Brabon remained in Cardiff for a further 5 years before playing a season at Romford Raiders and returned to Cardiff again as goal keeping coach for the Cardiff Fire in the league title winning season. Mike returns to Cardiff Fire once again as part of the goalkeeping team and will also take on the role of goal keeping coach for the club.

Head Coach and Director of Hockey, Mark Cuddihy, added:

It’s brilliant to bring somebody of Mikes experience into this young team. Mike has a lot of hockey knowledge and will be a massive help to me on and off the ice. I have worked with Brabs on and off over the last ten years. He came back to us in August and has been skating with us for the last 7 weeks. You can see he still has it and he’s really enjoying himself out there. I’m delighted he’s back with us and he’s going to be a really important part of our team this year on and off the ice.

Brabs will wear his number 39 jersey for the Fire. Welcome back to the Fire family Mike! #FireItUp
