6 – 4
Basingstoke BuffaloCardiff Fire beat the Basingstoke Buffalo 6-4 with a final minute goal at Ice Arena Wales on Saturday night. Check out the goal scorers, team stats, post-game interview and photo highlights below.
Forward Kris Kasjanovs opened the scoring early for the Fire with his first goal of the night just over a minute into the game. The Fire took a commanding four goal lead in the game thanks to two further goals in the first from Jack Whiting and Alessio Bovolenta, followed by a fourth Fire goal by captain Lewis Stevens in the second. However the comfortable lead wasn't to last and by the end of the second period the gap had been shortened to within just one goal.
Late in the game with Fire on the penalty kill, the Buffalo were able to tie the scoring to four a piece and with less than 3 minutes left in the third it looked like it was going to overtime, but the final period wasn't over yet. With only 19 seconds left on the clock Kris Kasjanovs was able to break the deadlock and restore Fire's lead, before scoring a buzzer beating empty netter for a hat-trick and securing the win.
Kris Kasjanovs picked up Player of the Game with a hat-trick of goals and the game winner as the Fire claimed the first 2 points in the season series against the Buffalo.
