Cardiff Fire took the winning streak to 13 games in a row and a perfect record for the 2016/17 season so far with a massive 7-1 win against 2nd place in the league Wightlink.

The game couldn’t have started any better for the Fire with the first goal coming just after 9 seconds from Sammy Bryant. The very first shift for the 2nd line saw fire double the lead after just 2 mins 30 seconds of play through Sam Smith. Fire seemed to relax a little for the next 5 mins and Wightlink started to get opportunities, Sean Richardson scored one of those opportunities after 5 mins of play. A period of ascendancy for Wightlink followed for the next 5 mins. Luke Takel pulled off 2 fantastic saves from 2 breakaways, keeping the Fire in front.

Jackson Price, fresh back from the university games scored the first goal of the 2nd period putting the Fire 3-1 after 6 mins. Just 3 mins later Tamas Elias scored his first goal of the evening, impressing playing with Sam Smith and Alan Armour.

The 3rd period got under way and Fire knew the next goal was crucial, had Wightlink scored the game would be back on and if Fire scored the game would be all but won. Just 2 mins into the 3rd the goal came that all but killed the game off. It was Tamas Elias again on the score sheet, a complete line goal with assists going to Sam Smith and Alan Armour. A superb breakaway goal from Josh Haslam and yet another goal from Tamas Elias ended the game with an impressive 7-1 victory against 2nd place Wightlink.

Fire play Swindon at home Sunday 19th Feb and victory will secure the league title for the Fire for the 2nd concessive season.
