The Cardiff Fire are thrilled to announce the return of a familiar face between the pipes, as goaltender Ben Scanlan signs for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Cardiff-born Ben first joined the Fire in 2018 on a two-way deal with the Cardiff Junior Devils U18s. He has been a backstop for the team since he was just 16 years old, racking up 137 appearances in a Fire jersey.

After signing a two-way agreement with the Bristol Pitbulls National team in 2025, Ben took a brief step back from full-time Fire duties. He spent the second half of last season sharpening his skills at the second tier of British hockey, where his dedication earned him a National League appearance, achieving an impressive 87.0% save percentage with 20 saves.
Scanlanโs history in Cardiff has established him as a calm, reliable presence in the net and a goaltender capable of stealing games in high-pressure moments. His return injects proven talent, crucial depth and a wealth of experience back into the Fireโs defensive core.

General Manager and Director of Hockey Stevie Lyle added:
Having Ben come back to the Fire is a real coup. We believe he is one of the best goalies in the league, especially with his drive to continuously improve.
Our goalie coach will be working closely with all of our netminders throughout the season to elevate every aspect of their game.
Everyone at the Fire would like to give a warm welcome back to Scanners! #41
