The Cardiff Fire are thrilled to announce the re-signing of 18-year-old defenceman Joseff Brickell for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
The hard-hitting blue-liner returns to the Fire setup following an impressive year of growth and development within the club's prospect pathway program.
A home-grown defensive talent, Brickell made the step up to senior hockey in 2024 and last season split his time across three different teams to fast-track his development. Joe balanced his junior commitments with the Cardiff Junior Devils U19s, whilst also gaining invaluable senior experience with both Pitbulls 2 and the Fire, playing a pivotal role in helping capture both the U19 Division 1 South League Championship and the National Playoff Championship.
Known for his fearless, physical style on the back line, Brickell has quickly earned a reputation as a dependable player who isn't afraid to battle in the corners or put his body on the line to block shots.

To continue maximizing his development and ice time, Joe has re-signed on a two-way agreement with the Bristol Pitbulls NIHL2 team for a second season. This partnership ensures the young prospect will continue to get valuable senior minutes across both clubs.
Head Coach Elis Sheppard on the return of Joe:
Joe is a strong physical presence within the team and is transitioning into more of a power forward than a D man. He competes hard, is willing to finish his hits and consistently shows a willingness to battle for his teammates. His physicality and competitive nature are valuable assets.
Iβm excited to see his progression continue over the season.
Joseff will wear the number 24 jersey for the upcoming season. Everyone at the Fire would like to give a warm welcome back to Joe! #24
