Cardiff Fire are pleased to again partner with Radio Cardiff 98.7FM award-winning show ‘Standing Room Only’ for the 2022/23 season.
Fire has linked up with Chris O’Brien’s Standing Room Only sports and music show on Radio Cardiff since last season. As part of the exciting link-up, O’Brien has been our new match night announcer for home games, with Fire coverage featuring on the Radio Cardiff show throughout the season – including player interviews, match reaction and audio highlights.
Standing Room Only broadcasts at 9pm on Thursday evenings on community station Radio Cardiff 98.7FM, the only terrestrial radio channel exclusively covering the capital city of Wales. The show is focussed on local sport and music, and part of the programme’s core ethos is to deliver parity of coverage for the local professional, semi-professional and grassroots sports scenes. The show has twice won honours at the UK Community Radio awards – winning silver in the prestigious Sports Show of the Year category in 2018, and bronze in 2019.

We’re over the moon that the Standing Room Only show and Radio Cardiff 98.7FM will again team up with Cardiff Fire for another exciting season at the Ice Arena Wales.
It was awesome to be behind the mic at the arena last season for some truly memorable moments – from beating Guildford, to the derby wins over Bristol and Swindon, and so much more. The engagement with the fans, and the whole Fire Family, was amazing, and I can’t wait to do it all again this season.
From match highlights, to interviews and reports, Radio Cardiff 98.7FM has also become the home of the Fire on the airwaves – and we’ll be keeping it that way for the new season, on Thursday evenings at 9pm.

I am thrilled that Chris and Standing Room Only are back onboard with the Fire this season. As I’ve said before I am a big fan of the show, I’ve been on it myself along with some of the guys. Chris brought his energy from his radio show into our match nights last season and had the place rocking. We pride ourselves on the best match night experience we can deliver and having Chris back this year was crucial to that. I know the players are also pumped that he’s back due to the atmosphere he creates within the building.
