Fire Raise Over £200 for Cardiff Foodbank with Charity Face Masks

The Fire are delighted to announce with the help of the Fire Family purchasing our Fire Face Masks, we have raised £220 for local charity Cardiff Foodbank.

With lockdown measures easing across Wales, the club launched our official Fire Face Masks to allow supporters to show off their colours whilst staying safe and giving back to the local community. Our washable and re-usable face masks feature a 2-fold design with a double layer of fabric which is comfortable to wear and provides a large covering for your face.

The Cardiff Chevrons design features the team logo and three red chevrons inspired by the flag of Cardiff. The Fire Dragon design features a fire-breathing dragon inspired by the Welsh Dragon – Y Ddraig Goch.

All profits from the sale of the £7.50 adult masks and £6.50 kids masks has gone to Cardiff Foodbank to help with the amazing work they do. With the current total at £220 we can announce an average of £3 per mask purchased has been donated to the local charity.

Development Manager of Cardiff Foodbank, Helen Bull, said:

Cardiff Foodbank is so grateful for the generous donation by Cardiff Fire IHC, from their face mask sale profits. Thank you too, to all those who have purchased the masks. Many people are struggling to put food on the table during this time, and this money will help to ensure people don’t need to go hungry in our city.

Cardiff Foodbank is the largest of 36 Trussell Trust Foodbanks in Wales and has 3 part-time staff and 190 weekly volunteers, with seven centres across the city. The charity gives food and further support to people in crisis who are unable to provide for themselves or their families, with all food donated by the general public. In the last few months alone, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Foodbank has provided for over 5,500 individuals in Cardiff.

Operations Manager and designer of the face masks, James Assinder, said:

The Fire are proud to be fundraising for such an important service in the local community and we are pleased so many fans have shown their support for the tremendous work they do by purchasing our face masks.
