Fire sign 6’6 Russian born Lithuanian international Ruslan Cernych

Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce the signing of 6’6 Defenceman Ruslan Cernych. Ruslan started his senior career in the Lithuanian 2nd tier at the age of just 16. In 2014 Ruslan headed stateside to join up with Lake Tahoe of the Western States Hockey League before joining the Arizona Redhawks, San Diego Skates and Northwest Generals.

Leaving the sates in 2015 Ruslan has played senior hockey in the Czech Republic, Spain, Holland, New Zealand and the UK. This year Ruslan was selected to represent the Lithuanian national team at the world championships and scored 1 assist in 3 games.

Mark Cuddihy continued:

I have been watching game video of Ruslan at the world champs and I am delighted to be able to bring him to Cardiff. Ruslan has been great to deal with over the last week and he comes in at a key time for us as we have been running very short on D since Deakan Fielder returned to North America. He’s a big boy with a hell of a reach and now has international experience to add to his CV.

Ruslan will make his debut for Cardiff Fire tomorrow on the road as we take on Invicta Dynamos in Gillingham.

You can catch Ruslan in action in his first home game this Sunday against the Solent Devils. Tickets can be booked online HERE!

Welcome to Cardiff, Ruslan!
