Cardiff FireCardiff Fire at Chelmsford Chieftains
Saturday 31st October | Riverside Ice
After a week's break, the Cardiff Fire prepare to keep their winning momentum going as they hit the road once again. Their opponents are the Chelmsford Chieftains. The English side sit top of the table. It has all the makings of a memorable match: two sides who know how to secure a victory, one looking to remain at the top and one hunting down a statement. Cardiff will leave it all out on the ice like always. Itโs going to be a good one.
Last time out
Last time the Fire took to the ice, they welcomed the Solent Devils to the Vindico Arena. The Welsh side were in pursuit of redemption. It was a tight first period; after the opening, the score was tied at 1-1. The Fireโs goal came from new signing Steve Osman. Rhys and Owen Smetham tallied goals that gave Cardiff a three-goal advantage. Those were the team's final goals of the game. The final 20 minutes were all about protecting the lead. They did the job, holding out for the win. The final score was 4-2, marking another important win as the season progresses. Cardiff will look to keep the winning momentum going.
Stats
The Fireโs season has been a fascinating one so far. Cardiff sit fifth in the league with nine points, three wins and two defeats. Over their last two matches, their attacking prowess has been on full display, scoring 13 goals while conceding six. The Smetham brothers lead the side in scoring: Owen has tallied six and Rhys has four. What has been impressive is the teamโs ability to create, producing assist after assist to spark scoring opportunities. The Fire have already produced some sensational performances this season. However, an exciting clash looms as they prepare to take on the league leaders.
The opposition
Chelmsford have been rolling at the moment. The Chieftains are still unbeaten. Scoring 37 goals throughout the campaign, they have been lethal in front of goal. Right now, the side is averaging 5.29 goals a game and has conceded only 2.71 on average. The likes of Grant Bartlett and Rio Grinell-Parke have made an impact on the ice, accumulating 12 and 11 points respectively. There is no doubt it will be a challenging task. Yet we could be in for fireworks, as they are both wonderful to watch on the attack.
The Fire will be desperate to keep their winning ways going, and will leave it all out on the ice to do so.
