Highlights & Interviews from Fire’s 3-2 Comeback Win Over the Stars

Two quick goals in the third period sealed the comeback win for the Fire over the visiting Oxford City Stars on Sunday night.

Following a goalless opening period, it was Fire’s Cam Basnett who scored the opening goal just under 2 minutes into the second period when the puck sneaked across the line.

The Stars answered back at 27:41 with a goal on the powerplay by Matt Lawday, then took the lead at 31:15 when Jake Williams picked up a rebound to beat Davies.

Late on in the second period the Stars were given a five minute man advantage, but the Fire killed off the penalty keeping the game all to play for early in the final period.

It was at 46:07 that the Fire scored the equalising goal thanks to Kris Kasjanovs picking up the rebound and going five-hole on the Stars netminder.

Less than two and half minutes later Reed Sayers skated cleanly around the Stars defence to fire home the game winning goal on the powerplay and make it 3-2 to the Fire.

Ross Miller stopped 40 shots out of 43 on the Stars, with Lewis Davies making 45 saves out of 47 shots on goal for an impressive 95.74% save percentage.
