Cardiff Fire strengthen their D line-up with new 6’3 defenceman Joseph Llewellyn

Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce the signing of defenceman Joseph Llewellyn from Solent Devils for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Joe started his hockey career as a junior in Oxford, before moving to Swindon and then eventually spending four seasons in the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Swindon, captaining the side and stepping up to play for the Swindon NIHL2 side and Swindon National League side at just 16 years of age.

Over the next four seasons, Joe split his time between a stint in Sweden, Bristol NIHL1 and National sides, as well as Oxford and Solent. Last season Joe played exclusively for the Solent Devils in Division 1 playing 27 games and reaching the post-season playoff finals.

Still only 22 years old Joe has been integral in several Division 1 sides, boasting an impressive 82 NIHL1 games and brings a lot of D1 experience for such a young player.

Head Coach Elis Sheppard continued:

I am delighted to secure the services of Joe for the rest of the season.

Joe brings size, strength and versatility to our defensive core. He is a player with a plethora of experience at this level, who’s previous experience in playoff games speak for themselves.

From our initial conversation, I know Joe is keen to make his mark for the team.

New signing Joseph Llewellyn said:

I’m beyond excited to sign with the Cardiff Fire and start this new chapter of my career. The opportunity to contribute to this team’s success is one I couldn’t say no to.

Joe will wear the number 28 on his Fire jersey with his home and away game-worn jerseys now available to own & loan for the season at shop.cardiff-fire.com.
