Mark Smith returns to the Fire for 2018/19
Former Elite League Canadian defenceman Mark Smith return to Cardiff Fire for the 2018/19 season in a new role as Director of Player Development.
Mark Cuddihy added “Smitty joined the Fire last season and quickly became very popular amongst the players, his experience of playing NCAA, professional leagues in North America and Elite League was invaluable to the younger and experienced players. Our players learnt a ton from Smitty last season. The new role means that Smitty can focus on individual players and better prepare some of these players and the club for life back in Division one.
I really enjoyed working with Smitty last season and we will both be working hard to make sure we have a good season this season and develop the club on and off the ice. Mark brings his experience and expertise not only in developing players on the ice but off the ice as well. He brings invaluable experience from over 12 years of working with some of the best coaches and strength coaches on teams in North America and this will undoubtedly push players to reach higher levels of personal and team success”
Mark Smith continued “Its great to come back for another season in a new role, its disappointing the summer we had but we are now focussed on the positives and driving the players and the club forwards. I’m looking forward to getting the guys in shape with off ice sessions and one to one development on the ice and supporting the coaching staff as much as possible”
