Cardiff Fire at Romford Buccaneers
Saturday 8th February | Sapphire Ice, Romford
Another double hockey weekend for Cardiff Fire, firstly playing against the Romford Buccaneers away. Buccaneers currently stand 27 points ahead of us in the league, and each time Fire have come up against them so far, they have proved to be a tough team to beat.
The first period began with a promising start to the game for Fire with three goals on the board. However, they only managed one more goal for the rest of the game while the Buccaneers surpassed those goals to ultimately win the game with ten goals in total.
This was still a night to find many positives in Fire’s performance. #19 Tom Stephens secured not only the first goal of the game on the powerplay but also his first goal as a Fire player, this goal was assisted by #33 Aaron Moody and #27 Carter Lloyd timed at 09:44. The second goal was scored by #43 Captain Lewis Stevens on a powerplay, assisted by #19 Stephens and #33 Moody.
Third goal of the first period was scored by #34 Bailey Hind-Pitcher assisted by #41 Net Minder Ben Scanlan. Final goal of the night for Fire was scored by #27 Carter Lloyd assisted by #98 William Thurlbert and #97 Player-Coach Elis Sheppard.
Player of the game went to #41 goaltender Ben Scanlan after facing 56 shots on net.

Cardiff Fire vs Solent Devils
Sunday 9th February | Vindico Arena, Cardiff
Following on from Saturday’s defeat, there was an obvious buzz at the Vindico Arena, an excitement exuding from Fire, pumped up and ready to take on the Solent Devils.
End to end, and fast-paced playing in the first period only allowed for a brilliant opportunistic even-handed unassisted goal by Fire player #40 James Matthews timed at 07:23. This was followed in the second period by another Fire goal, this time scored by #98 William Thurlbert, assisted by #34 Bailey Hind-Pitcher and #27 Carter Lloyd timed at 27:38.
Going into the third and final period Fire were two goals ahead and were hoping to keep it that way. However, in under two minutes the Devils managed to score closing the lead by one goal. In a challenging third period, which saw some intense playing from both sides and some very dynamic action in order to prevent the Devils from scoring again. Even when the Devils pulled their goalie in the final minutes and Fire missed the opportunity to score an open net goal. In the end, the team that seemed more in unison, that managed to stay resilient and did not concede anymore goals to a team that currently sit much higher in the league, came out on top.
An historic first win for the Fire against the Devils at the ninth time of asking since our first meeting on 10 November 2018.
After his brilliant performance and exuberant presence on the night, player of the game went to #97 player-coach Elis Sheppard.
It must be mentioned that during one of the periods there was a game delay due to one of the referees receiving treatment after an on-ice collision with a player. We hope Jason Lambly is recovering from the injury that occurred and hopefully see him at the next game.
Thank you once again to all Fire Family and away team supporters that came for great game of hockey and hope you all enjoyed.
