Cardiff Fire vs Invicta Dynamos

Saturday 25th January | Vindico Arena, Cardiff

Pride night at the Vindico Arena saw Cardiff Fire come up against the current #5 in the NIHL South Division 1, the Invicta Dynamos. With both teams taking great shots and creating opportunities to score, the more clinical and organised team came out on top, final score of the game was Dynamos 9 – 2 Fire.

However, even with the loss, the team and all supporters had a great evening with a big turnout for the game. We welcomed LGBTQ+ communities from Cardiff to come celebrate our annual Pride night at the rink - including the Pride Cymru charity, the FAW equality advisory group, Pride Sports Cymru and all the local LGBTQ+ inclusive sports clubs. The evening ended with our first ever auction for limited edition game-worn Pride jerseys. This was an absolute success, and we would like to thank all of the Fire Family members who joined us in the bar for drinks and bid at the auction. It was lots of fun for us and a great opportunity to meet some players and get photos with their jerseys.

Christella Lewis of Target Group was presented with a special signed jersey by the team for kindly sponsoring this year's Pride jersey.

An exciting second period started with the Stars extending their lead with another goal. This was however followed by an even-handed Fire goal, scored by #83 Rob Price, assisted by #21 Kris Kasjanovs and #43 Captain Lewis Stevens timed at 22:50. Within 5 minutes Fire were following this up with another goal from the same line, this time scored by #43 Stevens, assisted by #83 Price and #21 Kasjanovs timed at 27:17. A really close game for Fire, with a lot of great plays from the team, just really unlucky in the end with the penalty shots. It was great to hear that a lot of the Fire Family went to attend the game in Oxford showing their support for the team!

Player of the Game as chosen by the officials was #41 Ben Scanlan.
