Six unanswered goals in the first and second periods gave the Fire a big lead to seal the win against Peterborough Phantoms 2 on Sunday night at Ice Arena Wales.

Fire opened the scoring at 6:04 with a goal from returning forward Josh Haslam who couldn’t have had a better start as he made his season debut. Two quick goals followed from Jordan Powell at 7:11 and then Kris Kasjanovs just 41 seconds later scoring straight off the face-off on the powerplay to end the period three goals up.

Fire extended their lead in the second with three more unanswered goals, including a brace for Jordan Powell at 26:07, a shorthanded goal by Carter Lloyd at 31:04 and a unique goal by Iwan Davies at 35:00 as he chipped the puck in from the blue line for it to bounce in over the netminder. The Phantoms got themselves on the board at 36:14 to break the shutout, but Fire soon answered back with a seventh goal by Rhys Harding at 37:01 to end the period.

With Fire on the penalty kill early in the third period the Phantoms capitalised scoring two powerplay goals, but it wasn’t enough to make a comeback. Fire rounded out the game with a final goal and a brace for Kris Kasjanovs at 56:21 to take the win 8 goals to three.

Netminder Ben Scanlan picked up Player of the Game with an outstanding night in goals recording a 96.70% save percentage to keep the Phantoms at bay and help Fire secure the 2 points.
