Guildford PhoenixCarter Lloyd’s overtime winner saw the Cardiff Fire end Guildford’s winning streak with a 4-3 victory over the Phoenix at Ice Arena Wales on Sunday night.

Fire took an early lead in the game with an unassisted goal from Carter Lloyd at 5:38 followed by another goal just 15 seconds later when Rhys Harding scored a wrap-around on Phoenix netminder Petr Cech.
The Phoenix battled backed from two goals down with two goals scored by Joshua Abbott, leaving the game all tied at 2-2 at the end of the first period.

Fire got the go ahead once again with a goal from Sam Bryant at 32:38 to give Fire a slim 3-2 lead at the end of the second.
With just over 8 minutes left in the third period the Phoenix equalised with a third goal by Joshua Abbott taking the game to overtime for the first time on home ice this season.

In overtime Ben Scanlan denied any attempt by the Phoenix and it was the Fire who would get the extra goal on the night. Carter Lloyd used his speed to cut across the slot and score his second of the night for a brace, firing the puck past Petr Cech to earn Cardiff an important win against title rivals Guildford.
Netminder Ben Scanlan picked up Man of the Match with an impressive performance saving 69 shots on goal, with Fire taking the 2 crucial points in both the league and cup competitions.
