The Welsh Cup returns: Cardiff Fire and Deeside Dragons vie for victory

The Cardiff Fire are delighted to confirm the return of the Welsh Cup to be contested against the Deeside Dragons for the second year in a row this September.

This will be the second time the rejuvenated cup has been played in as many seasons, with Deeside taking the spoils last year in an all action encounter over two legs with the Fire just missing out with an aggregate score of 16-14.

The Fire will be looking to burn the Dragons this time round, with the first leg in Cardiff on Saturday 20th September and the return fixture just seven days later in Deeside on the Saturday 27th September.

The 2025 Welsh Cup fixtures are:

  • Home 1st Leg - Saturday 20th September - Vindico Arena, Cardiff @ 7:00pm
  • Away 2nd Leg - Saturday 27th September - Deeside Leisure Centre @ 5:15pm

Head Coach Elis Sheppard added:

I am delighted that our close relationship with Deeside Dragons has allowed for the Welsh Cup to continue to grow and become an annual competition. Last season was bittersweet being so close to lifting the trophy, but seeing the competition back after so many years helped ease the below. The team are ready to exact revenge.

The first leg of the Welsh Cup will mark the start of the new season for the Fire, facing-off against the Dragons at the Vindico Arena on Saturday 20th September - Face-off is at 7pm and tickets will go on sale soon!

Keep an eye out on the Deeside Dragons website and socials for details of the away fixture.
