Cardiff Fire Celebrate a Decade on Home Ice

10 years ago today, the Cardiff Fire skated out for our very first home game in front of a packed crowd at what is now the Vindico Arena.

It was a long time coming for the team after 4 months playing on the road with no place to train. The arena wasn't officially open and we were limited to 500 spectators, but everyone at the club was delighted to finally play back-to-back games at a fantastic new facility to call ‘home’ - Ice Arena Wales.

Director of Hockey Mark Cuddihy said:

It was a special moment playing the two home games in a weekend, after playing the first 4 months on the road while Ice Arena Wales was built. Being the first team to play a game at the new rink we had been waiting so long for is a memory I will remember forever!

From that first puck drop in 2016 to competing in every division under the Elite League, it has been an absolutely unbelievable journey. We’ve built so many memories in the home of the Fire, and none of it would be possible without the unwavering support of our Fire Family.

Player-Head Coach Elis Sheppard said:

I remember the buzz around our first home game: The first time the Vindico opened its doors for hockey. I can’t believe the time has gone so quickly.

To every player who has worn the jersey and every supporter who has cheered from the stands - Thank you for bringing the noise, the passion, and the heat every single game over the last 10 years.

Here’s to the last decade and to many more Fire hockey nights in the Bay!
