10 Years of Fire

Since hitting the ice a decade ago, the Fire has been built on passion, grit, and the incredible support of the Cardiff hockey community. It is only fitting that we celebrate this landmark anniversary on the patron saint day of Wales. We are calling on the Fire Family to pack the arena, wear your feiry jerseys with pride, and raise the roof for a night of Welsh heritage and high-octane hockey.

The Match-Up

The Mos are always a tough test, promising a fast-paced, physical battle. With vital league points on the line, the team is ready to leave everything on the ice to honour the occasion.

Fire has a long-time rivalry with the Mos going back to the club's first season in NIHL1

Director of Hockey Mark Cuddihy added:

I actually can’t believe this is Fire’s 10th season, it’s quite crazy to comprehend. We have managed to fit a lot into our ten years, 2 league titles and few narrow playoff misses and we have competed in every division under the Elite League.

The best part of this is looking back to our first season and right up until today and seeing the same group of off-ice team that have been on this journey with us from the start. Seeing Shep out there leading the team after winning young player of the year 10 years ago is quite special. The supporter’s that came on day one and have continued to support us through good times and hard times. We use the tagline ‘Fire Family’ for a reason and that’s exactly what we have been for the last ten years.

I can’t wait to see what the next ten years hold for fire, the young players coming through and making a name for themselves in the game.

Thank you to everyone that has been involved in making Fire what is over the last ten years. It’s been a blast.

Player/Head Coach Elis Sheppard said:

From being 18 years old trying to break into the Fire team and sharing the ice with some legends of British hockey to now being one of the most seasoned individuals, sharing the ice with some of the legends children!

Hockey has and always will be a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ve experienced them all. From winning the league, to losing the play off final. Now, coaching the team.

It’s been an experience that has helped shape me as an individual and forever grateful that the Fire gave me the opportunity to meet some of my best friends.

The club we would have been nothing without the dedication and commitment from the staff involved in our match night, to the fans supporting us when times have been tough. Here’s to the future.
