Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce that defenceman Joe Morris and Tom Smith will return to the Fire lineup for next season.
Joe Morris has been playing senior hockey since 2011 from the age of 16 and despite being only 24 years old he brings a ton of experience having played in 221 senior games. Joe Captained Cardiff under 18’s to a national championship in the 2012/13 season whilst also playing NIHL hockey at Division 1 and 2 levels. Joe was also a league champion with Cardiff Fire during the 2016/17 season.
Veteran defencman Tom Smith rejoins the Fire for 2019/20. Tom joined the Fire last season after having a spell living and playing hockey in Canada. Tom first joined Cardiff ENL/NIHL back in 2007 and played for 6 seasons before heading out to Canada for a work opportunity. Whilst in Canada Tom continued to play hockey. Tom has played over 100 games for Cardiff at senior level and has previously captained the club.
Head Coach Mark Cuddihy continued:
In Tom we have a very disciplined D man. He plays his end first and takes pride in his defensive work. He hits hard and makes good plays out of our zone. He has a very good knowledge of the game and could easily become a coach. He’s also one of the best dressing room guys I have ever worked with, a real team first guy!
Joe has great experience for somebody so young. He has experience of winning league titles and playing in over 200 senior games. Joe has constantly put up decent numbers finishing 4th in scoring during the 2017/18 season and also finished joint top scorer for a defenceman in last seasons Fire team. Joe is another popular guy in the dressing room and is mature beyond his years. I look forward to working with both Tom and Joe again this season!
