Cardiff Fire are pleased to announce the return of Josh Haslam and Ben Smith for the upcoming season.
Haslam is another Fire player that has played senior hockey since the age of 16. At the age of only 24 Josh has played in 242 senior games scoring 121 points. The 6’1 centre will start his 5th season with the Fire and was part of two league winning Fire teams.
Ben Smith rejoins for another season having joined in 2017 from the Cardiff Under 20’s team. Ben is only 21 years old and during the 2017/18 season made the switch from forward to defence and spent the whole of last season on D. Another player over 6 foot tall Ben has quick feet and moves the puck well.
Head Coach Mark Cuddihy added:
I have had Josh with me for 9 years now, he joined us as a 16 year old from the Cardiff junior programme. He’s a big guy and really quick when he gets his feet moving. His best season for us was in 2015/16, playing at NIHL Div 1 level scoring 20 points in 29 games. Josh has worked really hard this summer on his conditioning and we are hoping that he hits the ground running. He has fantastic ability and natural talent and we’re looking for a break out season from his this term. Another player that can lift the room when needed.
Ben made the switch from forward to D full time last season, having previously played there on occasions in juniors. Ben is in real good shape and is getting better and better with each season. Ben played 12 games in NIHL 1 in his first season of senior hockey and handled himself very well. At only 21 Ben’s best hockey days are ahead of him, he’s very coachable, works hard and is a great player to have in the room.
Welcome back guys!!
