Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce the return of club Captain and defenceman Elis Sheppard for the 2021-22 season.
Local lad Elis started his hockey career in Cardiff before moving away to play junior hockey in Slough. As an Under 18 in Slough Elis stepped up to the NIHL team from the age of 16 and following his graduation from junior hockey returned to Cardiff to sign with the Fire.
During his first year with Fire Elis was awarded young player of the year and has since played in all 3 NIHL leagues with the Fire. Last season Elis was appointed club Captain for Fire, at the young age of just 24 Elis has played 7 years of senior hockey back to the Fire.
Director of Hockey and Head Coach Mark Cuddihy continued:
I am delighted to bring Elis back for another season following the Covid break. Elis has really stepped up as a leader in the room, he plays the game hard and wants to win every 50/50 battle. He sticks up for his team mates and has the respect of the entire room. Since joining us, Elis has improved year upon year. Elis will be a huge player for us this season, even though he’s only 24 years old he’s been in the league for 8 years now and is a young veteran of NIHL hockey. Elis will play a huge part in Cardiff Fire’s season on and off the ice.
Elis Sheppard added:
It’s always a privilege to re-sign for the fire. I’ve been here since the inception and will be entering my 6th season. After the difficult past 18 months I’m looking forward to lacing up my skates and playing in front of the fire family again. I am excited the direction that club is going in and I’m grateful I am a part of this. I can’t wait to lead the boys as captain into battle again.
Everyone at Cardiff Fire would like to welcome back #97 for the new season!
