Cardiff Fire are pleased to announce the signing of 23 year-old forward James Matthews for the 2024/25 season.
James is a product of the Swindon Junior Academy and up until last season James had spent all of his hockey career in his hometown. During the 2023/24 season James joined up with the Oxford Rising Stars, moving away from Swindon for the first time.
James will be stepping up a league to join Fire after having spent the last four seasons with Swindon and Oxford in NIHL2. James has played 91 games at NIHL2 level scoring 56 points including a standout season of 20 points in 21 games.
Head Coach Elis Sheppard continued:
Having only known James to play against, I know we are getting a great player joining our ranks. James is tenacious, he plays both ends of the ice and will give 100% all night. He also has a playmaking element to his game, which will help generate offensive opportunities.
I thought our team was complete, but knowing a player of James’ ability was available, I am glad he agreed to join our ranks and complete our team.
Welcome to the Fire Family, James #40
