The Cardiff Fire are thrilled to announce that 17-year-old forward Joseph Malfatti has re-signed with the club for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
The local lad returns to the Fire lineup following an exceptional breakout year in senior hockey, solidifying his reputation as one of the brightest young prospects in the region.
Joe successfully made the step up to senior hockey last season, splitting his time across three different teams to fast-track his development. Malfatti balanced his junior commitments with the Cardiff Junior Devils U19s, whilst also gaining invaluable senior experience with both Pitbulls 2 and the Fire.

In his debut senior year with the Fire, Joe showed maturity well beyond his years. He suited up for 17 games, chipping in with an impressive 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) while adapting seamlessly to the speed and physicality of the adult game.
While finding his feet in senior hockey, Joe lit up the U19s with 43 points (16 goals, 27 assists) in just 14 games played for the Junior Devils, placing him 3rd overall in the league for assists.
To continue maximizing his development and ice time, Joe has signed on a two-way agreement with the Bristol Pitbulls NIHL2 for the upcoming season, with the Cardiff Fire serving as his main team. This partnership ensures the young prospect will continue to get valuable senior minutes across both clubs.

Head Coach Elis Sheppard on the signing of Joe:
Joeโs game is the perfect blend of โold school hockeyโ mixed with the finesse of newer style hockey.
He has fantastic speed, shoots the puck well and is solid in possession. His off the puck work rate is second to none and throws his body into battles each night.
Joe had a stellar breakout year last year, earning valuable minutes and playing both power play and penalty kill.
Although one of the youngest players, his hockey IQ and his adaptiveness to the game means he is a player who can be relied on.
Everyone at the Fire would like to give a warm welcome back to Joe! #14
