Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce the return of Sam Jones and the full time signing of Sam Bennett from Okanhagan Hockey Academy.
Both Jones and Bennett are local lads that began their hockey careers in Cardiff. 18 year old Sam Bennett joined OHA after a year of juniors in Cardiff and returned to Cardiff on a two-way deal between OHA and Fire. 20 year old Jones progressed through the Cardiff age groups also making his debut for Cardiff Fire during the 2019 season.
Director of Hockey and Head Coach Mark Cuddihy continued:
It’s great to have both Sams back again, being 20 and 18 they have lots of development ahead of them and they’ve both shown great attitudes with us. Sam Jones finished the season really strongly with us stepping up from the Fire 2 team to Fire 1, Sam scored a great goal for us last season in our win at Bracknell and really started showing signs of real progress. In Sam Bennett we have a player that takes his hockey development seriously, moving away to OHA proved that. Sam played 5 games for us last season after signing a two-way and you could see the growth in his game with every minute of senior hockey he played. We’re in a re-building phase at Cardiff Fire and these two players will be important additions for us this season and hopefully for years to come.
Welcome back Sam Jones and Sam Bennett! #FireItUp
