

It was a fantastic, festive, final weekend of hockey in 2024 for the Fire beating MK Thunder with a convincing 5-2 home win at the Vindico Arena on Sunday 15th December. Check out the match report, stats, post-game interview and photo gallery below.

Cardiff Fire 5-2 Milton Keynes Thunder

Saturday’s game saw an away loss against the Invicta Dynamos 7-2, Fire’s two goals of the game both scored by #34 Bailey Hind-Pitcher and assisted by #27 Carter Lloyd and #98 William Thurlbert.
On Sunday, Fire returned with a fighting spirit aiming to start their festive break with a win, however with various players out with injuries and up against a team eager to fight there way up the league table, it wasn’t going to be easy.
The first period saw only one goal for the period, an even-strength Fire goal scored by #34 Bailey Hind-Pitcher assisted by #27 Carter Lloyd and #59 Iwan Davies timed at 19:36 to end the first period with a Fire 1 goal lead.
After a Thunder penalty in the second period, Fire secured their second and only power play goal of the night scored by #59 Iwan Davies, assisted by #98 William Thurlbert and #27 Carter Lloyd timed at 25:15. Thunder fought back to score a goal making it 2-1, but this was followed quickly by another Fire goal, scored by #98 Thurlbert assisted by player coach #97 Elis Sheppard and #27 Lloyd timed at 27:07 to end the period.
In the final period, Fire with another goal, this time scored by Captain #43 Lewis Stevens assisted by #78 Ian Spridgeon and #33 Aaron Moody timed at 47:37. Thunder managed to score an additional goal making it 4-2 leaving them still trailing by two goals. Fire managed to further this lead this time with #97 Sheppard scoring and being assisted by #40 James Matthew’s and #43 Stevens timed at 54:12. This was the final goal of the game.
A great game for Fire and lots of cause for celebration after this win; with a total of 51 shots on goal and some brilliant saves, Player of the Game was awarded to Goalie #96 Gemma Davies.
Also, with his 51st goal and an assist during the game Captain #43 Lewis Stevens has broken the record and is now the teams All-Time Top Scorer with 107 points in 127 regular season games.
