Cardiff Fire make another off ice appointment in Nikki Goodwin. Nikki is studying Sports conditioning and Rehabilitation at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Nikki is the daughter of referee David Goodwin and is also an established hockey player herself, currently playing for the Cardiff Comets and the Cardiff Redhawks Uni Team.
Nikki Goodwin Added “I have been involved with ice hockey all of my life through my dad being an official; meaning I have a great understanding of the sport and how the players work, I have played for the past 2 seasons for the Cardiff Comets and the Cardiff Redhawks, just resigned for the Comets for my 3rd season. I have been interested in sports therapy and massage since doing a sports massage module at college. I am going into my 3rd year at Cardiff Metropolitan University studying Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Massage, I’ve been working with the Cardiff Ice Hounds for the past few months during their push to win the play-offs. The degree I am studying will enable me to give sports massages to players and help with any first aiding/injuries where possible. My dissertation will also be based around ice hockey in some form so if the team could help me with that then it would be great. I can’t wait to work with the team, hopefully I can help with keeping the players in shape and make the play-offs/promotion this season!”
Mark Cuddihy added “Bringing Nikki on board is really important. Nikki is very keen to work with us and having somebody that understands hockey is a massive bonus. Hockey is in Nikki’s blood, she is going to understand what the players are going through and what their needs will be throughout the season. We had a very brief chat and both made a decision instantly. Nikki will bring a lot to our team and i’m delighted we are able welcome her to Cardiff Fire”
