Former Cardiff Devil Chris Deacon and Andrew Davies join the Cardiff Fire for the 2015/16 season. Chris Deacon is the older brother of player and GM Ricky Deacon. Chris has played many levels in Cardiff and started his senior career with the Cardiff Rage in the BNL as a 15 year old. Chris then went on to Captain the England under 16’s and18’s continuing on to play for England under 20’s in the EPL for 2 season while playing his junior hockey in Cardiff. He also represented Great Britain under 18’s during this period. As an 18 year old Chris played 17 games for the Cardiff Devils in the BNL and stayed in the BNl for two seasons before representing Cardiff in the ENL where he was a stand out defensemen.
Andrew Davies joins Cardiff Fire from The Cardiff Ice hounds recreational team where he has been a player for the past few years culminating in a coaching role over the last year. Andrew came all the way through the junior development system playing alongside many of the current Elite league top Brits such as Matthew Meyers, Phil Hill and Jonathan Phillips. After leaving ice hockey Andrew continued playing roller hockey for various Cardiff Based teams and still continues to play at a high standard in many British Championships. Andrew is another physical D man who also likes to play the puck and will give Cardiff an attacking option from the back.
Mark Cuddihy added “Its great to be able to bring back Chris and Andrew to National League hockey. In Chris we have a lots of experience. Chris has been taking time out from hockey but he has often come out with us for the odd skate over the years and you can see that he still has that class. He’s an aggressive D man that doesn’t shy away from the rough stuff and will be a huge help to our D. Andrew is another player i’m looking forward to working with. I have seen him a few times over the summer and he has impressed with his ability to break quickly from defence to offence which I think will add a lot to the team. Both of these players have played alongside many of the guys already signed so will fit into the team very quickly”
